When Seattle-raised Michael Colovos met Nicole Garrett, a rising magazine fashion editor hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, it was a style-maven love match. The dynamic design duo formed a thriving business partnership with the launch of their high-end denim line, Habitual in 2001, and later a flourishing domestic partnership, getting hitched just a few years later. In 2007, the L.A.-based pair were wooed back to New York to take the reigns at Helmut Lang, where their utilitarian designs combine luxe street style with hints of femininity.
